THE MONTH OF LOVE

What are you doing this month for your heart?
Everyone (ahem, who is not single) loves February. It’s the month of romance. It’s the month of
declarations of love. Its also a great month to focus on heart health. The heart is the most important
muscle in the body, and like every other muscle its needs attention to stay healthy. Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in both men and women today. The fact that heart disease is so common tells us as a society we need to focus a bit more on keeping our hearts healthy. LIV is committed to improving community health, and part of that includes taking care of the heart. This month, here’s how:

YOGA
The heart needs both energetic and physiological care, and yoga provides both. Yoga may not provide as much cardiovascular benefits as some other forms of exercise, but it still improves peripheral circulation which affects the heart. Yoga also deepens our connection to self. Over time the practice of yoga leads to deeper self awareness. This increases our capacity to self love. As we learn to love ourselves better through a heightened sense of self awareness we inevitably learn to love others better as well. On February 25 th LIV offers a great love practice, that combines yin yoga and acupuncture. Life can beat us sometimes until we feel like we are going to break. This workshop focuses on using yoga to release any shields we may have built around our hearts. Shields that at some point in time protected us, but also at other times can stop us from loving and living freely.

The acupuncture aspect of this workshop, given while relaxing in savasana will help to open the chest and heart space and aid the body in healing the heart muscle and heart meridian.

MEDITATION
Meditation is an excellent practice to get in touch with one’s true self. Meditation offers a deep sense of calm to its practitioners. From a place of calm, we are better able to listen to the wants, desires and needs of our true self. How do you properly love yourself if you don’t really know who you are or
understand your wants and desires? Making time for meditation gives us space to connect to our true selves, the center of which is our heart. Yoga asana is a form of moving meditation, but LIV also offers workshops in seated meditation. Check out our meditation workshop happening all of February if you want to learn more.

COMMUNITY
Having good community is a vital aspect of healthy living, and a vital aspect of heart health. There is the saying that ‘no man is an island’. Even the most introverted of us need community to thrive and flourish, whether that community be a single family member, a lover, good friends or a pet. Liv understands the importance of community. That is why LIV partners with local business and offer client specials such as buddy passes. Buddy passes allow you to sign up for classes with a friend at discounted rates.

So, what will you do for your heart this February?

Maybe you will treat yourself to a massage or acupuncture. Both modalities can improve heart health. Maybe you want to commit weekly to a flow class, or maybe you want to attend one of our workshops.

What ever you choose LIV supports you with love.

Namaste.
