Laurel’s passion for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and massage stems from her almost lifelong quest for better health. In her late teens she started to explore yoga as a tool for maintaining vitality and longevity. In 2004 she certified in Forrest Yoga, a highly therapeutic form of yoga. Therapeutic yoga opened Laurel to the world of alternative medicine. Today Laurel is certified in Massage Therapy and Traditional Chinese Medicine, having completed her 2200hr Eastern- Western Massage Diploma and Doctorate of Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Canadian Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Laurel effectively combines the health benefits of acupuncture, Chinese herbal therapy, massage and yoga in her work. She accredits this ability to her years spent working as a secondary school teacher in her country of birth Barbados. She is passionate about helping individuals increase their productivity by increasing their energy levels, improving their mood and decreasing their pain.
Laurel is a member of the College and Association of Acupuncturists of Alberta (CAAA), the National Health Practitioners of Canada (NHPC) and The International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). She is dedicated towards the well-being of her clients through a patient centered health care approach in which she aims to help her clients create and maintain optimal health, primarily by helping them manage stress and alleviate pain. When not working, or on her yoga mat upside down, Laurel can be found studying, exploring craft and design, or learning Latin dance.
Her treatments may include acupuncture alone or massage and/or cupping may be incorporated as well. Depending on the needs of the client relaxation or therapeutic massage techniques, either Chinese or Western in nature, are used to ensure the client leaves the table on their way to optimal health.
Laurel uses acupuncture to increase circulation and reduce hypertonicity in overused, or injured muscle tissue. Acupuncture creates balance in the body. Acupuncture has the ability to profoundly relax and rejuvenate the body and mind; it also reduces tissue inflammation and stimulates better functioning in the organs.
